One of the best ways to store water in the landscape is through temporary or permanent open water features such as wader scrapes or ponds. These natural 'Run-off Attenuation Features' or RAF's can be designed so that they store more water during periods of high rainfall, draining down slowly to a more natural water level once floods have passed.
RAF's and ponds can store huge amounts of flood water, as well as having benefits for wildlife, carbon storage and more. |
